Newell Pioneer Village
The museum complex includes the 1860's Robert Newell House, an early Oregon schoolhouse, Butteville Jail, and the Pioneer Mothers Cabin. The pioneer Mothers Cabin was recently moved to the site from its precarious perch on the banks of the Willamette River and is now part of the Newell Pioneer Village.
DAR Good Citizenship Award
The DAR Good Citizens award and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
Old Kinney Millstones 1853, 1860-1868
"Where is it and what happened to it? Finding the old Kinney mill stone became of interest to me because of a letter to the local newspaper The News Register in McMinnville, written by Johnny Edwards. The Yamhill County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated the stone with a program in 1929. The news paper also lists two other dedications." (Jackson, Lila. "The Old Kinney Mill Stone." The West Side (Nov. 2005): 3. Print.)
The millstones shown are a part of the first historic preservation by the Yamhill Chapter, DAR in 1929.
To learn more about the mill, you can read pages 9-11 in the book McMinnville; it is one of the "Images of America" series of books, by author: Christy Van Heukelem and Tom Fuller.
